Important Information when submitting a claim

Claims must be reported within the 30 day period from date of loss/damage to the insurance company.  Due to this issue the claims must be reported to Thura Broker Service as soon as possible.
  • Even though you are unsure whether it is a claim, you should still report it telephonically to Thura Broker Services.
  • In the event of a claim or damage, it is your responsibility to ensure that no further loss or damage occurs.
  • In the event of a total loss you must keep the wreck of the insured item (if it is available) in case the insurance company asks for it.

During a Motor Accident you may not admit liability to the third party even if you know who the responsible party is. Any documentation received from other parties must be sent to us immediately.
The Insurer is not contractually obliged to recover the excess in terms of the policy contract and it is provided only as an additional service. Please take note that the recovery of an excess can take considerable time depending on the situation or information available.
  • Stop immediately.
  • Do not move the vehicle till the police have arrived on the scene. If the vehicle is causing an obstruction then the position of the vehicle must be marked on the road surface and then the car can be moved.
  • Make sketches of the accident.
  • Get the name and address of the third party as well as that of any eyewitnesses.
  • Get the following:
    • Make and model of vehicle
    • Registration number
    • Short term insurance information
  • Give your information as well as your broker’s contact details to the persons who will require it.
  • Report the accident to the SA Police Services within 24 hours if there was no injuries or deaths. Get a police case number.
  • Under no circumstance must alcohol be taken after an accident unless recommended by a doctor.
  • Take the vehicle to the nearest panel beater or in the event of the vehicle not being drivable then have it towed in to a panel beater for a quotation to be repaired (it would be preferable to use a AA approved tow in service).
